Roxborough

Roxborough and East Falls Real Estate and Community

Incorporated into the city in 1854 and bordered on the north completely by Fairmount Park, Roxborough offers a network of community parks, forested trails and Natural Areas as one of Philadelphia’s greenest communities.
Off of the more commercial sections of Ridge Avenue, in ‘Downtown’, or lower Roxborough, you’ll find a more metropolitan feel.  Small streets are home to a mix of Victorian townhouses, stone twins and cozy Colonial singles between Starbucks, distinctive boutiques, a nationally renowned Mexican restaurant and the local paper.

Upper Roxborough, mainly developed after 1950, has a suburban character with post-war twins, capes and ranchers, larger front lawns, garages, little-league fields and shopping centers.
Roxborough is full of ‘mini-neighborhoods’ with individual character and attractions.

Thomas Mill Heights: On the border of Montgomery County, this collection of widely-set singles with sprawling landscaped grounds gives the privacy of country life the convenience of city amenities.

Andorra
: Home to the Schuylkill Center for Environmental Education, with year-round art and nature programs, a wildlife rehabilitation center and over 340 acres of open space hidden up the road from the bustling Andorra Shopping Center and through the park to Chestnut Hill shops and dining.

The Valley
:  Formerly the site of a expansive rolling golf course, this group of hilly roads sets the landscape for post-war brick twins and ranchers.  Located in the heart of Roxborough, the Valley is convenient to all it has to offer, including warm and friendly neighbors, plus plenty of off-street parking!

Wissahickon Hills
: Over 400 historically located homes, built around 1944 on the former Gorgas estate bounded by Ridge and Henry Avenues, Gorgas Lane and Gates Street.  The adjacent kid-friendly Gorgas Park holds summer movie events and concerts, and is beautifully maintained year-round by the Friends of Gorgas Park.

Wissahickon
: The southern-most neighborhood of Roxborough takes on the feel of its bordering neighbors, East Falls and Manayunk.  Walk down the thousand steps to the Fairmount Park trails, or down to Main Street for shopping and dining without having to park.  Decorated by soaring trees and rich and varied architecture, this green neighborhood is minutes from Center City via the River Drives or abundant public transportation.

W.B. Saul High School, the largest agricultural high school in the country, features grazing cattle and horses, pastoral fields and botanical gardens.

EAST
FALLS

East Falls is a 300 year old community at the end of Kelly and West River Drives with a rich history, varied architecture and strong community roots.
Many of the attractive rowhouse blocks were built by the Dobson Mills and the Powers & Weightman Chemical Company as housing for its employees in the late 1800s and early 1900s.  These streets sit alongside winding private drives with stately mansions, historic manors and the verdant Philadelphia University campus.

Originally home to the world’s first medical school for women, and known as the childhood home of Oscar-winning actress and Princess of Monaco, Grace Kelly, East Falls is proud of its place in Philadelphia’s history.

Today, East Falls continues to grow and flourish with new residential and commercial development.  The section of Ridge Avenue between School House Lane and Route 1 has enjoyed a resurgence with innovative restaurants and shopping.

Other attractions include the Falls branch of the Free Library of Philadelphia, the Old Academy Players on Indian Queen Lane, and the recently built Arthur Ashe Youth Tennis and Education Center.
